Stephanie Briggs

Chief People Officer

Stephanie Briggs is the chief people officer of the Humane Society of the United States.

As the chief people officer, Briggs leads the Human Resources department that serves the Humane Society of the United States, Humane Society International and Humane Society Legislative Fund.

She applies her talent management expertise across the organizations to lead significant HR initiatives, such as job architecture—defining positions, hierarchy and opportunities, and market compensation strategy—to ensure employee compensation is competitive and equitable based on individual qualifications. Briggs also oversees a substantial portfolio of critical HR programs, including our internal culture survey and performance management and promotions processes. 

Before joining the HSUS, she held leadership and management roles at Washington Gas WGL and Definitive Logic, a technology systems firm where she provided talent management guidance to officers, directors and managers. She has more than 19 years of experience in Human Resources, including business partnership, change management and employee engagement. 

Briggs earned a bachelor’s degree in Safety and Environmental Management from Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania. She lives in Alexandria, Virginia, with her husband, two children, rescue dog Chief Martin Brody and Greg the bearded dragon.
